The Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, announced, Monday in the House of Representatives, the launch for the first time, since last November, of a program preliminary project aimed at supporting the transition to solar energy for pumping irrigation water over an area of 51,000 hectares (Ha).
In response to an oral question on the use of renewable energies in the agricultural sector, posed by the Socialist – Opposition Ittihadi group, Mr. El Bouari specified that the Agricultural Development Fund (FDA) will provide financial support for the acquisition and installation of solar panels, pumps and related equipment.
He stressed that this support includes financial assistance of up to 30% of the cost of purchasing and installing equipment, with a ceiling of 30,000 dirhams per project.
The minister also indicated that, in accordance with the High Royal Guidelines, all seawater desalination stations will be powered by renewable energies, like the Dakhla station, equipped with wind energy which will allow the creation with an irrigated perimeter of 5,000 Ha in the area.
In addition, Mr. El Bouari noted that future projects and programs will take into account the set objective of 20% of the total energy used in the agricultural sector, as part of the development of resilient agriculture in the face of climate change. , promoting the use of renewable energies for agricultural irrigation.
