Nyon: conviction for sham marriage of a Kosovar

A Kosovar woman was convicted by the La Côte Police Court (VD) for having entered into a sham marriage. In 2013, her lover and compatriot, established in Switzerland and already married, wanted her to join him. In order for his mistress to obtain a residence permit, he had organized her union with a Swiss man, paid 25,000 francs. Last year, the Public Prosecutor’s Office sentenced the trio to a suspended financial sentence, accompanied by a fine for both men, for fraudulent behavior towards the authorities with the intention of enrichment. The woman objected. Tried at trial, she received a 30-day fine of 30 francs per day, suspended. She will also have to pay 1,450 francs in procedural costs.
