In Pamiers and Foix, two drunk motorists were arrested this Saturday January 18, 2025 after dangerous behavior on the road. One ended his race against a low wall.
It’s a chase that could have taken a more dramatic turn. On the night of Saturday January 18, 2025, around 1 a.m., a police patrol spotted an Audi driving at high speed on avenue de la Rijole in Pamiers. While the police tried to control the vehicle, the driver, a 21-year-old young man from La Tour-du-Crieu, fled. But not everyone wants to be a racing driver. The brief chase, which took place through the alleys of the city, ended on rue Henri-Fabre, where the driver lost control of his car, hitting a low wall.
In addition to being under the influence of alcohol with a level of 0.64 mg/l of exhaled air (1.28 g/l in the blood), the young man was driving despite a license suspension. Arrested, he will have to answer for his actions before the courts.
Zigzags on the road
Earlier in the same day, around 8 p.m., another incident took place in Foix. While the police patrol was at Avenue de Barcelona, it came across a vehicle which was driving towards the city center “at a very slow speed, zigzags on the roadway”. Suspicious behavior which did not leave the police indifferent. While turning around to check the driver, the police received a call about a vehicle reported by other motorists “as swerving on the road”.
-Behind the wheel, a woman in her fifties. Unsurprisingly, after making the fifty-year-old blow into the breathalyzer, the police noted a level of 1.14 mg per liter of air, or more than 2 g of alcohol in the blood. Placed in police custody, she will soon be presented to justice.
In 2023, Road Safety has identified that alcohol is involved in nearly a third of fatal accidents in France.
