Morbihan. Photographer Guillaume Herbaut sets out to discover the department's islands until March 1st

The Pass’temps cultural center in Malestroit in Morbihan hosts the temporary exhibition Morbihan, islands in winter of Guillaume Herbaut until Saturday March 1, 2025. The professional photographer sets off to discover the treasures of the department. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of the islands.

The theme of the exhibition Morbihan, islands in winter is the winter season in Morbihan Islands. The work of Guillaume Herbaut explores the raw beauty of the territory, when the cold has made its appearance, when the storms come to sweep the coasts, when the islanders finally find each other, because the summer visitors and festival-goers have left! This photo essay shows the true face and wild nature of these pieces of land. “ We are from an island more than a country, because insularity goes beyond nationality and forges the characters. The islanders are not living room people. » They have a reserved, rebellious, sometimes taciturn character and live in harmony with a demanding environment.

The exhibition sheds light on a world apart, that of the islanders like the 250 inhabitants of theHouat Island off the coast of Quiberon (56) with its wild nature, and those of the authentic and picturesque neighboring island of Hoedic who live on a piece of land 2.5 km long and 1 km wide, where people almost only move around on foot. These two islands face the ocean, protected by a succession of cliffs; these are the land of sailors without cars. With theMonks Island which watches over the Breton lands, these three little corners of paradise delight the 3000 tourists who come in the summer to recharge their batteries far from the continent.

Guillaume Herbaut captures the real life whipped by the waves, the daily life of this population dependent on the continent for the boat shuttles which take the youngest to their college, and the others to supplies. Living on an island all year round requires submitting to the climate, winds and currents…
