Nathalie Normandeau and Philippe Cantin discuss the implications of the US government’s decision not to impose tariffs on Canadian exports, a decision temporarily suspended by the creation of a commission.
“It is the threat that we feared the most in the country. Mr. Legault breathed a sigh of relief, as did Justin Trudeau and his team in Ottawa. Honestly, this is excellent news,” says Nathalie Normandeau.
But Canada may lose nothing by waiting…
“The game is far from won. For what? Because Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick made a statement that was reported in the Wall Street Journal a few minutes ago. He said: ”Foreign companies will pay if they want to come and sell products in the richest country in the world. If these companies don’t want to pay, they can just build their factories in America, hire Americans with well-paid jobs.“So you see, it’s a matter of time.”
