The Gambia’s Drug Enforcement Agency has seized large quantities of drugs and arrested 39 suspects, including an American, during operations across the country.
The Gambia Drug Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) announced on Monday the arrest of 39 people as part of 26 anti-drug operations carried out from January 10 to 16, 2025. Among those arrested were 38 men and one woman , including 36 Gambians, two Senegalese and one American national.
Seizures made during these operations include significant quantities of cannabis in various forms, including hashish, as well as 579 ecstasy pills and several stones of cocaine.
On the judicial front, the agency initiated twelve prosecutions in the country’s lower courts, including eight for possession of narcotics and four for drug trafficking.
Of the eight cases tried, seven resulted in convictions and one in an acquittal.
-In parallel with these repressive actions, the DLEAG claims to continue its prevention efforts through awareness-raising broadcasts broadcast on several national and community radio stations.
This series of arrests is part of the intensive fight led by the Gambian authorities against drug trafficking in the country.
