Fumel-Vallée du Lot: Didier Caminade retires in 2026, but major projects continue

During the wishes of the Community of Communes addressed to the population, the time was not only for the presentation of the projects to come in this new year. It was during an aside that Didier Caminade expressed his gratitude to those who have supported him over the years. He paid tribute to several key figures, notably the former mayor of Cuzorn and Jean-Louis Costes, while emphasizing that he regretted nothing about his career. “I have experienced exceptional years and difficult periods”he declared, before confirming that he would end his mandate in 2026, he who is also mayor of Cuzorn, to refocus on his family and his personal projects. Although this announcement did not take the audience by surprise, it is already sparking speculation about the succession to the presidency of the community of municipalities. The coming months will undoubtedly also be marked by the search for his successor.

Structuring projects for the valley

Didier Caminade, accompanied by Sébastien Ribeiro, general director of services, has, as expected this time, highlighted current and future projects. Among the most notable projects is the installation of solar panels on the former Tarkett industrial zones in Cuzorn, an ecological project supported by the Reden company. In addition, a partial sale of land for the Fumel factory, worth €3.5 million, is planned to finance the demolition work on the site. The cultural field is not left out, with a renovation project for the Liberty cinema in Fumel, which should lead to the opening of a third room.

And for the most reassuring announcements, we must turn to the health sector. In 2025, several professionals will settle in the valley, with a dentist in Saint-Sylvestre, a physiotherapist in Montayral and a radiologist who will open a consultation in Fumel. But one of the biggest news for residents lies in the establishment of an ophthalmological clinic, still in Saint-Sylvestre, specializing in corneal operations, with a team of four doctors. This project, which will see the light of day in 2026, will respond to a growing need for specialized care in the region. The plans for the end of the mandate are therefore taking shape under good auspices, but, without a doubt, the departure of Didier Caminade, planned for 2026, will undoubtedly be one of the major turning points of this period.
