Villeneuve-sur-Lot: the gaming house to help young people regain a foothold in society

In December 2024, around ten young people between 16 and 25 years old, in search of professional prospects, entered the doors of a « gaming house » located in Villeneuve-sur-Lot. This innovative space, focused on video games and new technologies, offers a unique opportunity to reconnect with the outside world while exploring their skills.

Initially perceived as gathering places for fans of online games and esports teams, “gaming houses” can today have a very different mission. Since the opening of the first structure in Aix-en-Provence in 2022, these spaces have also been used for the social and professional integration of young people in difficulty. Villeneuve-sur-Lot thus welcomes the fourth “Gaming house for integration” (GHINS) in , financed by the European Union and managed by the local mission.

A springboard towards autonomy

The concept is clear: allow these young people to rediscover their abilities in a relaxed environment, where video games and digital technologies become tools for personal and professional development. But it's not just about playing. This system also aims to strengthen self-confidence and develop concrete skills, adapted to the job market.

One of the most innovative aspects of this structure lies in the use of virtual reality headsets. These tools allow young people to practice everyday situations such as booking transportation, navigating an unfamiliar city or even simulating a job interview.

These GHINS make it possible to create an environment conducive to dialogue and mutual assistance, around common interests such as digital technology and gaming. Supported by local personalities, this support model could quickly extend to other regions, thus strengthening its impact. An innovative approach to explore professional opportunities, create an impactful profile and strengthen self-esteem to present yourself with confidence to recruiters.
