Teknival, rave or free party… it’s over in Aveyron: we explain why

Teknival, rave and free party have hit the headlines in recent months. A prefectural decree has just been published to ban them in Aveyron.

One unauthorized festive gathering too many? We can think so. After that of last April in (and its more than 3,000 participants), that of May in Veyreau (and its 700 participants) and the last one at the start of the year at La Couvertoirade which marked a participation record with a total of 3,500 “partyers”, the prefecture has decided to react.

It thus published, this Monday, January 20, 2025, a temporary decree prohibiting festive gatherings of a musical nature until midnight March 31. The document highlights public security reasons to justify this exceptional measure.

Preventing disturbances to public order

According to the terms of the decree, the ban aims to prevent disturbances to public order that could result from the event. The circulation of vehicles carrying equipment likely to be used, in particular sound systems, sound systems or even amplifiers, is also prohibited on all road networks (national and secondary networks).

The authorities also cited risks linked to noise pollution, environmental protection and the safety of participants. This ban is part of a context of increased vigilance in the face of large-scale gatherings.

In practice, offenders are exposed to fines of the fifth class (€1,500 maximum amount which can be doubled in certain cases of repeat offense) but also to seizure of the equipment for a maximum period of six months, with a view to its confiscation by the court.
