THE public transport fares for adults in Switzerland are roughly in line with the European average. On the other hand, seniors and people on business trips pay rather dearly, according to a study by Public transport information service (Litre).
Litra compared prices in seven European countries (Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Great Britain) for 2024, it said in a press release on Monday. This shows that fares for daily city trips for adults in Switzerland are in the lower average. Seniors in Switzerland, on the other hand, paid the second highest rate out of the seven countries compared.
Poorly-off Swiss seniors
For weekly journeys within a metropolitan area, Swiss adults spent the second highest fare in the ranking. Seniors in Switzerland are even those who pay the most in these areas compared to other countries.
-Daily travel between cities costs as much for adults in Switzerland as the average of the seven countries. On the other hand, irregular business trips cost the most in Switzerland.
