While the investigation into “Qatargate”, the alleged corruption scandal of members and former members of the European Parliament, continues slowly, a significant episode in the affair took place on Saturday January 18, with the information provided by Marie Arena in the press. The former Belgian socialist minister and former MEP announced, in La Libre Belgique, his indictment. Judge Aurélie Dejaiffe – who will soon leave the investigation to sit on the Brussels Court of Appeal – had heard the elected official two days earlier.

Close to the Italian Antonio Panzeri, a social democrat who sat for fifteen years in and who is the main actor in the scandal, Mme Arena was charged with participating in the activities of a criminal organization. She insists on the fact that, unlike other protagonists in this affair which is shaking the European Parliament, she escaped accusations of money laundering and corruption.
