On the eve of the inauguration ceremony of Donald Trump as the new president of the United States, scheduled for Monday January 20 in Washington, the CIA published the complete map of Morocco, including the Saharan provinces. The American intelligence agency specified, in a small text accompanying the full map of the kingdom, “that in 2020, the United States recognized Western Sahara as part of Morocco”.
A decision that President Joe Biden, whose mandate is coming to an end, has maintained despite strong pressure from the left wing of the Democratic Party and some Republican parliamentarians close to Algeria. With Trump’s return to power, Morocco wants the American billionaire to order his head of diplomacy to open a United States consulate in Dakhla, as he announced on December 10, 2020, in his declaration of recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara.
This week, the Secretary of State proposed by Donald Trump also welcomed the progress made by Morocco, particularly after its commitment to the Abraham Accords. However, Marco Rubio deplored that economic relations with Rabat do not correspond to the depth of political and historical ties between the two countries.
