The man arrested for stabbing a jogger in Gard last Saturday was indicted and imprisoned this Sunday, announced the deputy public prosecutor of Nîmes Frédéric Kocher.
Surprise attack
The events took place last Saturday in a park in Vergèze, a town located near Nîmes. A 44-year-old woman was attacked with a knife while she was jogging. She was surprised from behind and injured several times. After being taken to hospital, his condition stabilized. In the process, the prosecution launched a call for witnesses to identify his attacker.
Friday, a 25-year-old suspect, “domiciled in the environment of the place where the acts were committed» was questioned. Placed in police custody, he ended up admitting to having left with an object with the aim of attacking a passer-by.

The man is said to be unstable since he had been taken care of by a psychiatric establishment several days before the events and had been the subject of a leave of absence the day before the attack. At the end of his police custody, he was presented to an investigating judge, indicted for “attempted murder” and placed in pre-trial detention. Until now, he had no entry in his criminal record.
