Batch. Gignac salutes the memory of Alain Mas, an exceptional man serving others and Lot Football

A Gignacin the presence of his wife Colette, his two sons Sébastien and Nicolas, his close family, players and managers of the club and many friends ofAlain Mas, Solange Ourcival, the mayorretraced the life of this exceptional man, with a remarkable career, a model of voluntary commitment, before unveiling the plaque in his name on the door of the Club-House :

“The Larousse dictionary tells us that volunteering is an unpaid and freely chosen activity carried out within a non-profit institution… Feeling useful and doing things for others is the driving force behind volunteers, who get involved in fields of unpaid activity as diverse as sport, culture, leisure, humanitarian work, education, etc.

An extraordinary volunteer commitment

For the Economic and Social Council, there are between 12 and 14 million volunteers in France, or nearly one in four French people!

Within this vast world of voluntary commitment Alain MAS has a special status, he is at the top of the pyramid, among the elite of those who have devoted a large part of their lives to the service of others!

Football, like Asterix, Alain fell into the pot of this great team sport, the first team sport in France which from Dunkirk to Marseille, from Brest to Strasbourg, via the small villages of Occitanie and Lot mobilizes thousands players, managers or volunteer educators. Alain was of this breed, of those who give without expecting anything in return, with the only reward being the smiles and happiness shared with friends, with the players during and after the match; victory or defeat on the field whatever, Alain always knew how to encourage, find the words, congratulate the players and welcome the visiting team with dignity.

A pillar of local football and valued co-president

More than three decades dedicated to football, Alain was already an active leader during the glorious era of Gignac.

He participated in the creation of the first Gignac-Cressensac (USCG) agreement, and was thrilled by the success of this club in the Midi-Pyrénées league, the Coupe du Midi and the Coupe de France! Alain was among the founding members of the second agreement with Souillac, with a champion team of the Midi-Pyrénées league!

For years, Alain walked the football fields from Toulouse to Albi, from Montauban to Sousceyrac, driver of the minibus, linesman if necessary, carrier of the pharmacy and jerseys and always with his generous smile and his words full of wisdom and fair play. Co-president of the ESLG, he was unanimous within the association with his human qualities.

A tribute full of emotion and recognition

But it was here, in this modest clubhouse, on this beautiful lawn of which he was rightfully very proud, that he gave the full extent of his commitment. A stadium that many visiting teams envied us, a warm welcome after math, a festive third half. Alain, as a benevolent conductor, was able to put down the linesman's flag to change the keg of beer or prepare the post-match snack!

With Alain there was always Colette, Colette and her well-prepared little dishes before or after the match, the joy of the players!

Alain was also a member of the Lot district and very active in the commissions.

He was rewarded with several decorations (Youth and Sports, FFF), he was elected best football manager in the Lot.

You can be president of a club in the afternoon, lay out the pitch in the morning and mow the lawn the day before; That was Alain!

In addition to football, Alain also gave his time and his person for Ecaussystem, member of the Board of Directors and responsible for selective sorting during the festival!

It is a strong symbol, an honor for Gignac and for our municipality to give this clubhouse the name of Alain Mas.

The hours spent here, the bursts of laughter, the painstaking work, deserve to honor an exceptional volunteer! »
