Tennis player Daniil Medvedev will have to pay a fine of 74,000 euros.
At issue: his bad behavior at the Australian Open.
The Russian notably destroyed a camera placed on the net and missed a post-match press conference.
Novak Djokovic is not the only tennis player participating in the Australian Open to make headlines off the court. Before him, Daniil Medvedev stood out for his bad behavior at the Australian Open on several occasions this year. His outbursts of anger will cost him dearly: the Russian will have to pay a heavy fine, 76,000 dollars, or 74,000 euros.
When he entered the competition against the Thai Kasidit Samrej (418th), Tuesday January 14, the world No.5 damaged a camera located in the net by smashing his racket several times. Thursday January 16, Daniil Medvedev skipped the post-match press conference after his surprise elimination after five sets against the American Learner Tien (121st), in a match which ended at almost 3 a.m. in Melbourne.
During the match, Daniil Medvedev threw his racket at a billboard and argued with the referee after being penalized for several foot faults on serve. Before his second-round elimination this year, the 28-year-old had reached three of the last four Australian Open finals.
