A few days ago, the first stone of the project was laid. By September 2026, a new school and 376 apartments (including 150 social housing units) should be built.

For more than a century, air base 943 of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin (Alpes-Maritimes) hosted the 27th battalion of Alpine hunters. But on July 16, 2012, it permanently closed its doors, leaving behind a 35,000m² plot of land a few meters from the sea.
(Re)see the report that France 3 Côte d'Azur broadcast at the time:
Thirteen years later, the first stone of a future school and no less than 376 housing units was laid. Here, by September 2026, an eco-district will be born, called Coeur de Carnolès.
The Roquebrune-Cap-Martin school group will be able to accommodate 420 students, two classes more than the current beach school, from the start of the school year in September 2026.
The school is “one of the first moments when the child is confronted with society, exchange and sharing with others“, explains Stéphane Vollenweider, the architect.
We have to manage to create these moments of encounters, bring back a little poetry and, above all, well-being for the children, who will grow up in this place, learn and share.

The school will have 225m² of photovoltaic panels and a playground offering 824m² of natural spaces.
-The city is investing 15.5 million euros in a project in which it strongly believes. And for good reason, this space provides for the establishment of 376 new housing units, including 150 social housing units.
Patrick Césari, the mayor (LR), “hopes that there will be families affected by this accommodation“.
This will give us complementary families and children who will certainly need to be educated. We will therefore have a school that will meet new needs.

60 housing units will be at controlled cost and 166 at free price. There will also be 3,566m² of shops and 1,046m² of offices.
In this project, 27% of the surface area will be covered by vegetation, with limited access to cars. The architecture will be bioclimatic and energy efficient.

Requested by France 3 Côte d'Azur, Aspona, an association campaigning for the protection of nature in Menton and Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, says it is satisfied.
It is absolutely fundamental for us to keep islands of freshness and multiply them. This will lead people to walk more given that we are right next to a train station.
Marjorie Jouen, secretary of Asponaat France 3 Côte d’Azur
A small island which should stand out from the rest of the heavily built city, like many municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes.
