The PJD calls on King Mohammed VI to pardon lawyer Mohamed Ziane, aged 82 and serving a five-year prison sentence, as well as the detainees of the Rif popular protest movement (Hirak). This request is included in the political report of the general secretariat, presented this Saturday, January 18 in Bouznika, during the holding of an ordinary session of the national council of the Islamist formation. This meeting was attended by the Secretary General, Abdelilah Benkirane.
The PJD asks the sovereign to take “into consideration the circumstances of these detainees and the humanitarian circumstances of their families, as was the case during the generous royal pardon granted by His Majesty the King, may God protect him, on the occasion of the glorious Throne Day in favor of a group of journalists, bloggers and civil activists.
“A humanitarian initiative widely welcomed and appreciated by the people, which constituted a legal step forward,” noted the PJD. This session of the national council comes as the Islamist party must organize its next congress in the coming months. Benkirane should be a candidate for his own succession.
