a 25-year-old suspect arrested

Since Friday January 17, a man was taken into custody(New window) in a gendarmerie in Gard. He is suspected by investigators of having violently stabbed a jogger a week ago in a park in the town of Vergèze. This Saturday, January 18, residents say they are relieved. “I was not reassured, I live 100 meters from the attack which took place on Saturday, I hope that this will change things”, indicates a resident of the town.

According to the Nîmes prosecutor, the individual is a 25-year-old man living near the scene of the attack. For a week, the gendarmes from the search section had been combing the park looking for the slightest clue. Last Saturday morning, a 44-year-old woman was stabbed in the back several times while she was jogging. This attack created an anxiety-provoking climate in the neighborhood. “It's been a week since there's been almost no one there.”, testifies a local resident. Seriously injured and in critical condition, the victim is now out of danger.
