SENEGAL-AFRICA-DEVELOPPEMENT / Burundi decided to take inspiration from the PUDC, according to an official from this country – Senegalese Press Agency

Notto Gouye Diama, January 18 (APS) – Frédéric Nimubona, deputy chief of staff of the Burundian Prime Minister, assured of his country’s determination to reproduce the model represented in his eyes by the Emergency Community Development Program (PUDC) , saying he was impressed by the said program, implemented in Senegal since 2015.

The Emergency Community Development Program, launched in 2015, was able to “perfectly respond to the most urgent needs of rural populations”, declared Mr. Nimubona, Friday, at the end of the stay of a Burundian delegation (13-17 January), came to soak up the achievements of the PUDC.

“We are at the end of this exchange of experiences and we are extremely satisfied with the sharing of all the information,” he said, adding that the PUDC “has thought carefully about meeting the needs of the populations”.

“In each village we visited, the program resolved the most urgent needs with adequate solutions,” he said, saying he was “very satisfied” with the visits that took them to the regions of Fatick, Kaolack , Diourbel and Thiès.

In addition to working meetings, PUDC teams organized field visits for the delegation of Burundian officials, across several regions of Senegal.

The Burundian side was able to immerse itself in various infrastructures built by the PUDC, including a cereal processing unit in Dioffior, in the Fatick region (west), and a drilling in Kaël, in the Diourbel region (center).

She was also able to visit the construction site of a health post in Niangué, in the Tivaouane department, and that of a storage warehouse in Khondio, in the Thiès region.

Burundian officials also had the opportunity to see the impact of rural electrification in Mbanane, a village in the department of Mbacké (center). They also visited the development works on the section linking Ngadiaga to Bereup Ba, localities located in the commune of Notto Gouye Diama.

This track made it possible to develop the main activities in the area, which are market gardening and arboriculture, by facilitating access to their crops and the transport of their products for farmers.

“We are impressed by the market garden production because it is not raining but the farmers have made sure to irrigate the plantations to have good harvests,” noted Frédéric Nimubona. He promised that his country will try to reproduce this model.

“Burundi is full of rivers and streams, and yet we wait for the rain to cultivate; this is why the president is trying to fight against this by asking everyone to cultivate even during the dry season,” noting that “the PUDC helps local populations maximize their agricultural production to meet their own needs.”

“For me, that’s development,” asserted the deputy chief of staff of the Burundian Prime Minister.

Cheikh Diop, coordinator of the PUDC, stressed that the objective of the PUDC is to “rebalance the potential at the level of each territory”.

“Since independence, we have noticed that most investments are concentrated in urban centers. And this is what motivated the authorities, in the past, to create the PUDC in 2015,” explained Mr. Diop.

He indicated that the new “Senegal 2050” reference framework confirms this choice by public authorities to further balance development, by providing rural areas with infrastructure and equipment “to reduce disparities”.

“We wanted to show you all the components of the PUDC and also explain to you the genesis of this program, from design to execution, the institutional arrangements, the management method, the procurement, the relationship with the partners,” said he explained while addressing the Burundian delegation.
