Stade Rennais – Brest: Rennes falls at home again
For the 18th day, Stade Rennes hosted Brest at Roazhon Park, and lost again.
Rennes 1-2 Brest
At the end of a trying week, Rennes had a derby to play in front of their home crowd. After a catastrophic start to the year, Stade Rennes decided to strike a blow with the sidelining of 4 players (Gronbaek, Kamara, Santamaria, Gallon), before the reception of Brest, and a strong speech from its president Arnaud Pouille. Jorge Sampaoli therefore lined up an eleven quite similar to that seen in Troyes a few days earlier during the shameful elimination in the French Cup, for lack of many other solutions in his group.
The opponent opens the score, again
The start of the match was marked by several messages sent by the RCK, in front of which Assignon offered himself the first opportunity on an overrun, but his shot missed (5th). From a corner, Wooh found Bizot on his way, author of a superb save (8th). Brest responded with Baldé who also didn't fit (13th). On another Rennes overflow, Kalimuendo was found in the area but his shot was blocked (14th).
But as is often the case, Rennes conceded the first goal. From a corner, Magnetti was found behind and sent a heavy shot from the right, which beat Samba (27th). First opponent's shot on target, first goal conceded, 1-0 for Brest.
The revolt did not take place in Rennes and the atmosphere was electrified at the stadium. On a good counter, Blas did not press his shot hard enough, captured by Bizot (33rd). On the counter, Hateboer projected well and served Fofana who let it pass… for no one (35th). From a Rennes corner, Blas' shot was still too soft (39th). On a free kick, Blas found Ostigard who did not hit his head (40th). On a ball recovered by Kalimuendo, Fofana was launched and saw his shot pushed back (44th), Truffert did not hit the target. The last little thrill came from a long shot from James, deflected, which ended up on the bar (45+1). From a corner, Wooh did not fit, just like Assignon (45+2nd). Half time.
Ajorque doubles the bet, Blas answers him too late
Enterprising after returning from the locker room, Rennes remained sluggish, by Kalimuendo whose shot was blocked (46th). Baldé reacted by getting rid of Ostigard and going alone on goal, falling on Samba, author of a good save, decisive at this moment of the game (50th)! Gouiri came on in place of James, and his shot on target was captured by Bizot (59th). But it was still Brest which was the most dangerous, when Doumbia found on center arrived alone but did not get his head on target (60th). More offensive with the entry of Nagida in place of Ostigard, Rennes remained too sluggish, Blas not targeting his header on a cross from Fofana (67th). And in the 73rd minute, the ax fell again.
On a poor clearance from Samba, Zogbe threw Sima behind Hateboer, who crossed the near post for Ajorque, who doubled the lead. 2-0 for Brest… and 2-1 following a Rennes reaction! Gouiri on the right side served Blas who from the left deceived Bizot to reduce the score and give hope to his team. Blas again on a counter hit a shot but Bizot lay down well. Rennes supported but remained too messy, Kalimuendo missing a ready recovery (80th). Gouiri sent him a shot that was too soft (85th), and a distant free kick did nothing (87th). Gouiri, after a good phase, sent another too soft shot into the arms of Bizot (88th), when Fofana completely missed his later (90+1st).
In added time, on the right side, Meité took advantage of a good move to cross hard, and the ball was cleared by Bizot. On the corner, Wooh completely alone sent his header at the goalkeeper! It was the last action of the match.
At home once again, Rennes lost this season, and still does not take a point in 2025, with this 4th defeat in 4 matches in all competitions.
