To the chagrin of Algeria, Morocco hosts the headquarters of the ACA

The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African chose, Friday January 17, Morocco to host the headquarters of the Association of African Clubs (ACA). A memorandum of understanding should be signed between Morocco and the ACA on January 27, on the sidelines of the draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for the kingdom, reports the Moroccan sports daily Al Montakhab.

The choice of Morocco disappointed in Algeria. The eastern neighbor had submitted its application to host the ACA premises. “Algeria has just suffered a new disappointment in African football. Indeed, the Association of African Clubs, recently created to represent the interests of clubs on the continent, decided to establish its headquarters in Rabat, Morocco, which sparked strong reactions in Algeria, particularly due to geopolitical tensions. already existing between the two countries,” recognized an Algerian sports media.

“This choice appears to be a real “betrayal” for the Algerians, especially since the president of this association, the Tanzanian Hersi Said, had promised, last month, to go to Algeria to examine the possibility of establishing there the headquarters,” deplores the same source.

This new defeat of Algeria against Morocco at the level of the structures of the African Football Confederation is the last episode in a long series, started in 2017. Indeed, Algeria had failed to access the CAF Executive Committee , twice in 2017 against the Moroccan Fouzi Lekjaa, and in 2022 against a Libyan candidate supported by Morocco. Lekjaa also won, in March 2021, the race for the Council of the International Football Federation (FIFA) against the former president of the Algerian Football Federation, Kheireddine Zetchi. The eastern neighbor lost the organization of CAN 2025 to Morocco.
