Shocking scenes took place at the Vélodrome stadium during the Coupe de France match between Olympique de Marseille and LOSC. violent fight broke out between Marseille supporters of Virage Sud, leaving one of the stewards injured.
A firecracker at the origin of the clashes
According to information reported by Provencethe origin of these scuffles would be linked to the throwing of a firecracker by a member of the South Winners 87, a group located at the top of the Virage Sud, at a member of the Commando Ultra '84 positioned lower in the stand. This gesture disrespectful would have inflamed tempers, quickly degenerating into a violent brawl between the two factions of Marseille supporters.
About twenty minutes of conflict
The clashes lasted almost a twenty minutes in the South Bend of the Vélodrome. According to several testimonies, crutches and knives would have even been used by certain protagonists during this period of forte tension. Despite efforts to restore calm, a steward was reportedly hurt in the general melee. No troublemaker could be arrested at the time.
A sad recurring episode
Cet incident regrettable is unfortunately not an isolated case in Marseille. THE internal rivalries between the different groups of Marseille supporters have already generated in the past scenes of violence similar, tarnishing the image of the club and its fervent popularity.
