The skipper of the Charal 2 monohull is one of the most experienced in the tenth edition of the Vendée Globe, the famous solo sailing trip around the world, without stopovers or assistance, won this week by Charlie Dalin ahead of Yoann Richomme and Sébastien Simon.
Exclusively for the JDD, Jérémie Beyou, currently 5th just behind the Briton Sam Goodchild, expresses his disappointment. Expected from January 23 in Sables-d'Olonne, the Finistère, who is suffering from weather phenomena, sees a peloton of competitors coming back on him.
“I’m in my own race”
“I didn’t follow the arrival of the first ones. It's been a long time since I watched their race. They didn't have the same weather, that's of no interest. I just sent Charlie a congratulatory message. Me, I'm in my own race which is already not easy. I'm not envious. You shouldn't use that word. It's just random. They were lucky enough to find themselves in these scenarios.

Good for them, too bad for me. And it's not over yet. The weather phenomena will be contrary until the finish. The gap between the first three and the pursuers does not at all reflect the level of one or the other. It doesn't mean anything, it's the weather that decided it that way. If it will be a final sprint against Sam [Goodchild] ? No. I'm going to get blocked by a backbone [zone avec du vent faible] then I have depression [tempête] very strong to get around.

Sam and I will go in first, so we should be the most exposed. Then, some weather models don't see any wind at all in the Bay of Biscay. So everything is in place for those behind to come back. What do you want me to tell you? It's starting to tire me. I'm a little disappointed. I would love it to be a mano a mano with Sam, it won't be the case. I think everyone will come back. It's not fair. Once again, we will have to fight.
For two months, I have been waiting for the weather phenomena to go my way, for them to be more or less fluid, for there to be no barriers ahead. I'm really fed up with these contrary situations. It’s an incredible chain of bad luck. I can't wait for it to stop and I think that unfortunately it won't stop until I set foot in Les Sables. »
