On January 16, 2025, Peugeot proudly announced 100,000 orders for its e-3008 in Europe. A statement which, on closer inspection, deserves to be seriously qualified.
Numbers can sometimes be misleading. The case of the Peugeot e-3008 is the perfect example, with failed communication.
On January 16, 2025, the French manufacturer proudly announced 100,000 orders for its e-3008 in Europe.
The reality is very different. Indeed, registration statistics reveal a completely different story. In France, the manufacturer's main market, only 3,511 examples were registered in 2024, which places the electric SUV in a modest 25th place in the ranking of electric cars. A considerable gap with the ambitions displayed.
Digging further, we discover that the 100,000 orders announced actually include all versions of the 3008, whether electric or hybrid.
22% of total orders
The electric version would only represent 22% of total ordersor approximately 22,000 units. An important difference with Peugeot's initial communication which suggested that all of the orders concerned the electric model.
-The situation becomes even more intriguing when we look at delivery times. While Peugeot announces 35,000 orders for France alone, buyers cite delivery times of only 3 to 4 months.
These figures are difficult to reconcile with the current rate of registrations, which rarely exceeds 500 units per month. Even more surprising, some dealers have vehicles in stock, which seems paradoxical for a model supposedly a victim of its success.
If we rely on current registration figures and the observed production rate, it would theoretically take almost a decade to deliver all of the cars allegedly ordered.
