It has been more than a year since the risk of collapse was noted by the City of Grenoble services. On January 29, an old building located on the Quai de France threatened to collapse. As a precaution, the residents of a dozen homes located at 2 and 2 bis had been evacuated and relocated.

After the appearance of a crack on the facade, the City of Grenoble issued a danger and security order for the area. Initial work was then carried out. The second phase of the construction site has just started, leading to the closure of the Quai de France to traffic for a period of three months.

Work began this week in order to “sustainably strengthen the building“, indicates the City of Grenoble in a press release. These operations will be carried out in particular on the gable wall. The installation “of metal frames inside the wall with holes, the installation of iron and plates and the installation of trellis frames on the facade” are provided in the building. The work should end with a concrete spraying.to strengthen the whole“.

Traffic had already been interrupted for several weeks on this route, particularly in the direction of La Tronche – Porte de France. This was to consolidate the building and secure the area. Traffic was able to resume during the month of February. But access remained prohibited for heavy goods vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes.

During the work, which is expected to last three months, traffic on the Quai de France will be closed. The City invites motorists to take another route:Cars arriving from Quai Perrière will have to turn onto the Marius Gontard bridge.

On the other hand, pedestrian and cycle traffic will be “maintained“during construction. But some”specific phases of work” will lead to their closure. Their dates and duration are not yet known.
