“Let there be light” is the slogan of the city of Calais at the start of 2025, through several initiatives. This is the LuCa project, which involves lighting up emblematic buildings in the city, installing artistic lighting, and restoring lighting to all the streets at night. We detail this new nighttime look for Calais!
What is the LuCa project?
What is the LuCa project in Calais? LuCa means “Calaisian Light”. It is led by the city with Bouygues Énergies & Services (entity of Equans France), and Satelec for almost a year.
It is described as “unique” by the city and takes several forms.
-- A tailor-made lighting highlighting the monuments of Place Crèvecœur (Courthouse, Labor Exchange, Saint-Pierre Church);
- 36 “Calais lace” lighting fixtures custom-designed by Technilum;
- Controlled electricity consumption despite illumination requiring numerous light points;
- An ecological and economic dimension: a modernized lighting park and a 100% LED city by 2026.
Friday, January 10, took place in the presence of Natacha Bouchart, mayor of Calais, the inauguration of the new identity of Place Crèvecœur, marked by the illumination of important buildings.
In addition, after two years of nighttime extinction, all of the streets of Calais once again benefit from public lighting between midnight and 5 a.m. A decision made possible in particular thanks to the modernization work on the lighting heritage.
