The date is good. By scheduling a press conference for Friday January 24, 2025 on a project for a career campus around sport, leisure and well-being (horse riding, boating, sport and health, events, etc.) in the Pays Royannais territory, the president of the Royan Atlantique agglomeration community (Cara) Vincent Barraud should precede by a few days or a few weeks the announcement of the green light from the National Order of Veterinarians for the establishment of the Equitom veterinary clinic in Grezac. The two files go hand in hand.
“We had first thought of a campus linked mainly to professions in the equine sector but we decided to broaden the field of possibilities so as not to be limited. We are the second largest city in the department after La Rochelle and we are very poor in terms of training for our young people. We have a real political will to move forward on this issue by first carrying out a consultation phase in order to find out the needs and then determine the training offers and the location of the campus,” indicates the vice-president. de la Cara in charge of economic development and mayor of Saujon Pascal Ferchaud. Knowing that the Médis track, on the side of the Belmont commercial area, is not ruled out. “If we have to build, there is space,” notes the elected official from Saujon.
One thing is certain, the different professions linked to horses should take their place. In addition to the Mathes racecourse, the presence of great trainers, numerous equestrian centers and a specialized osteopathy school in Meschers-sur-Gironde make the Côte de Beauté a stronghold in this sector. Not to mention the arrival of Equitom, which plans to devote 15 million euros to the construction of its equine clinic which will cover an area of 21 hectares.
Campus visits
The Royan Atlantique agglomeration community will therefore first of all inform the stakeholders of the campus project, detailed on its website (www.agglo-royan.fr/campus). Vincent Barraud has already started to meet institutional stakeholders (prefect, rector, deputies, etc.) and “campus visits will be organized in February and March to learn from the achievements of other territories”.
-Furthermore, surveys are currently being carried out among various activities concerned by the campus project (surf schools, horse racing stables, etc.). “They aim to confirm the opportunity to create a new training offer in the region. The educational community (colleges, high schools) will also be consulted. At the end of this work planned for the first half of 2025, the community will consult the organizations selected to implement the training as part of a call for expressions of interest,” Cara is told, setting at completion of the project by 2029.
Round table on February 19
A round table on the theme “Professional training provision in the Royan Atlantique agglomeration: challenges and opportunities” will be organized on Wednesday February 19, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Royan Training Institute (IFR-Carel). The ten establishments providing professional training in the region will come to debate with economic decision-makers, elected officials and players in the educational world.
