Kolda, January 17 (APS) – The deputy governor of Kolda, in charge of development, Bonaventure Kalamo, on Friday invited young people to further seize the potential offered by the region to undertake development activities and turn the page of irregular migration.
“We are in a region with a lot of potential and we have very rich land. Just undertake development activities to succeed here [et tourner le dos à] irregular migration which, moreover, is a perilous adventure […] “, he said.
He presented certificates to 220 young people, girls and boys, who had participated in training on agri-food, as part of the fight against irregular migration in the Kolda region.
The deputy governor of Kolda in charge of development also welcomed the efforts of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other technical and financial partners who support Senegal in dealing with irregular migration.
Irregular migration is based on the belief “in an El Dorado in Europe that does not exist, so with this training you have all the elements to undertake and implement development activities in the region,” said Bonaventure Kalamo.
For eight months, training sessions organized in collaboration with the La Joie des orphans association helped strengthen the skills of young people in various areas of the agri-food industry, a growing sector in the Kolda region.
-These transfers aim in particular to consolidate the achievements in terms of reintegration of migrants returning home, with the aim of stimulating the employability and self-employment of young people in the Kolda region.
Bonaventure Kalamo urged the recipients to put into practice the knowledge acquired to best fit into the economic fabric of the region, as part of the overall dynamic of the fight against irregular migration, through sustainable alternatives offered to young people.
