Jacques Villeneuve predicts tough 2025 season at Aston Martin, despite Adrian Newey

Jacques Villeneuve, world champion in 1997, believes Aston Martin could be “the biggest disappointment” of the 2025 season, despite the arrival of Adrian Newey (from Red Bull).

The British team has finished fifth in the constructors' championship for the last two seasons. In 2023, Fernando Alonso had a string of podiums at the start of the year, even hoping to achieve a 33rd victory in F1, but since then, the team has struggled to maintain its level of performance over time.

Aston Martin regularly showed deficiencies in the development of its car during the season, a problem which worsened in 2024. At the end of the year, the team found itself overtaken in terms of performance by Alpine and Haas .

The arrival of Adrian Newey, expected in 2025, is a reason for hope for the team. However, in an interview with Action Network, Jacques Villeneuve explained why he expects a (new) difficult season for Aston Martin.

I would say Aston Martin will be the biggest disappointment of 2025, not because it will do a bad job, but because people expect it to start winning because Adrian Newey is there, but he has not yet had time to have an effect on the team, so the expectations of observers and fans will be too high.”

“The disappointment will not be because of poor results, but because they are not what people want and hope to see with Newey. It takes time”, concluded the Canal + consultant.
