During a press briefing held following talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bouritathe head of Liberian diplomacy expressed her country’s support for autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom of Morocco, which constitutes the only credible and realistic solution for the resolution of this regional dispute.
She further welcomed the efforts of the United Nations as exclusive setting to achieve a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the dispute around Sahara.
In this regard, Mr. Bourita thanked the Liberia for its constant and firm support for the territorial integrity of Morocco, in particular for its clear position in favor of the Moroccan Sahara which resulted in the opening of a consulate general of Liberia in Dakhla in 2020 and through its participation, in 2021, in the Ministerial Conference in support of the autonomy initiative under the sovereignty of Morocco.
In a joint statement published at the end of the bilateral meeting between the two ministers, the two parties welcomed the strong ties of fraternity and solidarity which unite the two countries and reaffirmed the shared desire to establish a Moroccan-Liberian partnership. an exceptional model of inter-African cooperation, based on the values of solidarity and mutual support.
In this regard, the two ministers reviewed the fruitful cooperation between the two countries in all areas of common interest and expressed satisfaction with the progress made in various areas, while reaffirming their commitment to exploring new avenues of cooperation in priority areas such as investment, industry, trade, fisheries and renewable energy, health, water, education, infrastructure, women’s rights and mining.
Recognizing the significant economic potential offered by the two countries, Mr. Bourita and Ms. Nyanti agreed to further intensify their efforts to develop and diversify trade, establish a mutually beneficial economic partnership and increase bilateral trade, by inviting the business communities of the two countries to take advantage of the opportunities offered by Morocco and the Liberia.
-In this regard, Mr. Bourita reiterated Morocco’s willingness to contribute to the implementation of the National Development Plan of the Republic of Liberiaaimed at providing basic social services and promoting social and economic development in the country.
At the end of the work of this joint cooperation commission, the two parties signed several legal instruments in the fields of industry, commercial cooperation, mining exploration and research, justice and rule of law, integrated management of water resources, social development, crafts and the social and solidarity economy, tourism, youth, training of health professionals, education, vocational training and granting scholarships studies, internships and sharing of expertise.
