Météo-France has placed Corsica on Orange rain-flood alert this Saturday evening due to the Gabri depression, which will hit the southern and eastern facades of the island. This alert follows a yellow alert in progress since the day.
Orange vigilance will take effect at 8 p.m. for Southern Corsica and at 10 p.m. for Haute-Corse. According to Météo-France, “the rain-storm degradation will affect the south of the island late Saturday afternoon before extending to a large eastern half during the night from Saturday to Sunday and Sunday”.
The rains will intensify on the southern coast from the end of the day, sometimes becoming stormy. They will reach Haute-Corse during the night, before strengthening continuously on the east of the island throughout the day on Sunday.
Significant accumulations of rain and snow in the mountains
On the eastern slopes and the summits of the central relief, cumulative precipitation could reach between 150 and 220 mm by Sunday evening. At altitude, snow will fall above 1,500 meters. On the coast, the expected accumulations will vary between 40 and 60 mm, with local peaks of 80 mm.
Météo-France forecasts an improvement at the end of the day on Sunday, with the rains gradually moving away.
