In 2024, the French tax system continues to evolve to adapt to economic challenges and social. In 2025, the government's timetable is strict, but does not change too much from last year.

Everything you need to know about taxes in 2024

Income tax remains at the heart of the French tax system. In 2024, progressive scales tax have been slightly revalued to take inflation into account.

In terms of environmental taxation, taxes on fuels, such as the TICPE (Domestic Consumption Tax on Energy Products), have remained stable. But the debates around their increase to encourage the energy transition persists.

Aid for the acquisition of electric vehicles or for renovation energy of housing continue to be encouraged by tax credits or reductions. And the ceiling on the tax reduction for child care has changed.

It thus increased from €3,750 (compared to €3,500 in 2023), which therefore offers a boost additional to families. No major changes have occurred in 2024.

The tax calendar in 2025

From July to August, this is the correction and refunds. If there is an error in your tax return, you have until December 2025 to modify it.

September is dedicated to the payment of income tax. Deadlines vary by payment method, such as September 15 for payments by check, cash or transfer, September 20 for online payments.

In October, non-monthly homeowners must pay their property tax. They have until October 20 for online payment, until October 27 by direct debit.

Finally, in December, the taxpayers concerned must therefore pay housing tax on second homes and vacant accommodation. They have until December 15 for traditional payments and until December 20 for online payments.
