How remains the second city of Haute-Garonne

Like every year, the 2025 population census campaign begins this week. The 14 enumerators (two more than last year given the increase in population) have been on the ground since last week to identify the housing to be surveyed and to inform the residents who will be enumerated. The residents concerned – a sample of 8% of the Columérine population – represent 1,600 households or dwellings. They must receive an information letter from the mayor. Then the enumerator, provided with an official card with his photo, gives each household a notice and a connection identification code to respond to the online questionnaire (only 10% complete a paper questionnaire).

Last year's team wanted to continue this public service mission since it only has three new census takers. “We therefore have an experienced team which is an asset for the town” says Olivier Sonzogni, head of the population census department at the town hall.

He recalls that the census is obligatory, free and confidential. Do not respond to fraudulent paid sites. The nominative data collected during the survey are then anonymized by INSEE after verification and removal of possible duplicates.

The census will take place from January 16 to February 22, 2025. The surveys will then be transmitted to INSEE. In July 2025, the first statistical data will be made public but the new total population figure will not be known until the end of the year.

Results of the 2024 survey

Following the 2024 census, the population of on January 1, 2025 reached 41,391 inhabitants, or 767 more in one year. Karine Traval-Michelet, Mayor of Colomiers and Vice-President of Métropole analyzes these figures: “they tell us that Colomiers remains the attractive center of western Toulouse for business leaders thanks to its economic fabric, its transport services in common, but also its services and its associative network for families who settle there more than elsewhere.

As the city has largely developed in housing in the 2010s, this has had an impact on welcoming a new population. Today the context has changed with different forms of urbanization, the city renewing itself rather than through extensions. Although the growth dynamic is less significant than ten years ago, the city is nevertheless continuing its demographic development. The structure of its population is changing: the share of young people (0 to 30 years old) has been relatively more stable for around ten years, while that of seniors (60 to 75 years old) has been increasing slightly for fifteen years. Urbanization and the supply of housing have also made it possible to accommodate families with children. We cannot therefore speak of aging of the population, the age pyramid remaining very balanced.
