With increasing numberswe will soon have to push the walls of the barracks Pont-Saint-Pierre (Your) to organize in particular a ceremony of the Sainte-Barbe.

In fact, the space was limited in the garage of the barracks where the firefighters took their places, Saturday December 21, 2024 alongside their families, facing the officials present, and in particular their head of center Lieutenant Christophe ChironCaptain Thierry Davy, representing the General Controller Emmanuel Ducouret departmental director of SDIS 27, and the mayors of Pont-Saint-Pierre, Romilly-sur-Andelle and Flipou and the departmental councilor Thierry Plouvier.

The ceremony began with a minute of silence to pay tribute to the firefighters who died in fire, on duty and to civil and military security personnel.

Then it's time for the presentation of medals, grades and diplomas (read below), allowing us to honor these women and men who are always ready to respond.

200 interventions in 2024

The head of the center, Lieutenant Chiron then took stock of the operational activity of the rescue center.

“Approximately 200 interventions carried out at the end of the year. This is a little less than last year. »

He then detailed the equipment fleet made up of four vehicles (a light fire van, an ambulance for rescue and assistance to victims, a utility vehicle for various operations and a reconnaissance and personnel transport car).

The firefighters of Pont-Saint-Pierre Romilly responded to 160 interventions to rescue people (80% of their missions), carried out 10 fire departures (5%), intervened in 14 road accidents (7%) and participated 6 times in various operations for the protection of people, property, animals and the environment (3%).

“We were unable to ensure other departures due to lack of staff availability during the day. But I know that in 2025 there will be more presence. »

However, “in 2024, the center responded to all requests from the Departmental Service for additional personnel by providing so-called exceptional guards, the staff being at the barracks, whether for climatic problems (storm, snow …) or for social events (urban violence…)”.

Added to this are participation in departmental maneuvers and corps demonstrations by ensuring a staff presence, such as that of standard bearer Joël during the departmental Sainte-Barbe.

Increasing numbers

Because the lieutenant confided his pleasure to see the numbers increasing.

“The rescue center saw its workforce increase in 2024. There are currently 24 firefighters, divided into 1 officer, 6 non-commissioned officers including 2 warrant officers and 4 sergeants, 6 corporals and 11 firefighters. »

As of January 1, 2025, two new recruits have already been announced after having “validated the recruitment test for the month of October”.

“The next test will be in March 2025 and we already have three applications and a file,” continues the head of the center, recalling that interested people can come and find out at the barracks.

On-site training

Lieutenant Chiron then addressed the issue of training. “To remain operational, all staff must complete around forty hours of maintenance training per year. » If until now, training took place in neighboring barracks, this will change in 2025 since three engineers have validated the trainers' skills.

Continuing on the training, he congratulated the section of the Young Firefighters of the Andelle Valley which has twenty-one young girls and boys “who have faultless behavior and motivation”, as well as their trainers and managers “ who bring you the values ​​and altruism of our corporation.” “Youth schools are a real nursery for the future recruitment of volunteer, professional and military firefighters, and even for some in the police and gendarmerie. »

At the end of the speech, the head of the center sent numerous thanks to active and retired firefighters, their families, the mayors and the departmental councilor, as well as Sdis.

Commitment and dedication

Taking the floor, Captain Thierry Davy therefore represented the director of SDIS, Controller General Emmanuel Ducouret, reading his speech. In this speech, the director of the SDIS notably recalled the commitment and dedication of some 320 professional firefighters, 2,050 volunteer firefighters (i.e. 85% of the workforce), 98 administrative and technical personnel as well as the 350 JSPs, listed in Eure .

The mayors of Pont-Saint-Pierre and Romilly-sur-Andelle, respectively Valérie Lavigne and Jean-Luc Romet, then both praised the commitment and dedication of the firefighters, welcoming the increase in numbers.

An intervention every 12 minutes in Eure

Last to speak, Thierry Plouvier, in his capacity as vice-president of the Department and member of the board of directors of the SDIS, recalled “the recognition of all Eurois and their gratitude”, towards the firefighters, recalling that 10 million euros had been invested in external fire defense over the last five years or even speaking of the fire plan which has enabled numerous investments.

“In 2024, the number of interventions in Eure will be around 45,000. This represents one intervention every twelve minutes. »

Then before handing over the microphone, he provided some major precision. “If 3-4 years ago, there was talk of merging the center with Pont-de-l’Arche, we fought. The center will remain here in Pont-Saint-Pierre with an improvement to the building. »
