On the evening of the first round of the 2024 legislative elections, the die was cast. The second part of the elections was between the National Rally and the New Popular Front. Outgoing Renaissance MP Émilie Chandler was ahead of her, without hope of returning the vote. She had just undergone the electoral purge of anti-Macronism. All he had to do was leave the arena. However, she chose to maintain her position, launching into a final charge directed against the Insoumis candidate, the young Maximillien Jules-Arthur, 23 years old, radical left activist, who came second. An approach which slowed down a possible victory for the New Popular Front but not the rise of the National Rally, represented by Anne Sicard, 57 years old.

In the second round, Emilie Chandler was beaten in Vexin, a territory she had made her own. Ousted by voters panicked at the idea of seeing a Mélenchonist candidate win. The counting of the ballots thus revealed a majority partisan opinion of the extreme right.

I allowed voters to choose no extreme

“If I had to do it again, I would do it,” persists Émilie Chandler about her maintenance. “I allowed voters not to choose any extreme,” she still thinks. His stubbornness is intact.

However, in the face of her political audacity, it is the nerve, even the provocation of Anne Sicard which seduces us today. Barely elected, the new MP went to the ceremony for the victims of the Aincourt internment camp, created in 1940 by the regime, to bring together communists, socialists, trade unionists and resistance fighters. Women too, Jewish or Gypsy. A dark national episode which forged the post-war far right, a political heritage to which the current parliamentarian is affiliated. Le Vexin opted for a fundamentalist close to the identity movement, adherent of Lepenism, rallied to Zemmourism. Transition from the National Front to Reconquest.

Between the two rounds, around thirty rural mayors affirmed their support for Emilie Chandler. From now on, it is Anne Sicard who is popular and who appears alongside elected officials who are not very careful about the career of the deputy of the Identity-Freedom party, founded by Marion Maréchal, the European deputy who a notable appearance during the November 11 commemorative ceremony in Magny-en-Vexin. She paraded at the head of the procession with the mayor (Dvd) Luc Puech of Alissac, confirmed support of Chandler. It was on this occasion that an elected official from the mayor's team released the name of the ex-MP for the succession of the councilor who would not run again. “Are we sure? », asks Émilie Chandler, to counter the rumor about her candidacy.

The former elected official would have been appointed to lead a list intended to succeed the majority in place since 2022. A mandate marked by a by-election, due to a split in the team elected in 2020. A deleterious political climate persists in Magny.

The Republic first

Without denying a possible candidacy, Émilie Chandler, 41, does not deny her desire to continue her local political action. “I remain attentive to the life of the territory. » To the question asked: could you be a candidate for Magny-en-Vexin? “2026 is still a long way off! “, dodges the one who had brought local subjects like the future gendarmerie of Magny to the top of the State, of which she claims the green light for the construction “by making a phone call to the Minister of the Interior” of then, Gérald Darmanin. Also insisting on the Ministry of Education to approve the future high school. She also supported the establishment of a medical Ufr (Training and Research Unit) at the University of - to contribute to the installation of new doctors in the medical desert of Vexin. When she was not sitting in the Assembly, she held regular visits to the villages. The parliamentarian supported the business world in Nucourt and Vigny, in particular. So many actions that push some to propel her as a candidate for the next municipal elections.

Failing to declare herself a candidate, she has just launched a citizen collective: Republic first (constituency), circle of reflection to defend democratic values in the Vexin territory. A start to a possible campaign list? His new political commitment comes as three deputies and close supporters return to government. Former Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne, who appointed her to head a commission on the subject of the judicial treatment of domestic violence. Former Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, now Minister of Justice, who visited farmers in Champagne-sur-Oise a few days before his appointment. As well as Aurore Bergé, Minister Delegate in charge of Equality between Women and Men, who accompanied her in her express electoral campaign in June 2024.
