Moroccan international Hamza Mendyl joins Aris Salonika

The Belgian club Oud-Heverlee Louvain (OHL) announced on Friday the transfer of its Moroccan left side Hamza Mendyl to Aris Salonika, which plays in the Greek Super League.

Mendyl (27) has signed a contract until 2026, with an option for an additional year.

The Moroccan player arrived in Leuven in the summer of 2022 from the German club Schalke 04. During his time at the OHL, which plays in the Belgian Pro League (first division), the left-back made 71 appearances. , scoring three goals and providing nine assists.

Born in Casablanca, Hamza Mendyl trained at the Mohammed VI Academy before joining the LOSC B team () in 2016 and taking his first steps in the first team the following year. He then joined German club Schalke 04 in 2018 and returned to France a year later in the form of a loan to , before playing a season at Gaziantep in Turkey from 2021 to 2022.

The player also has 20 appearances for the national team, but has not been called up since November 2020.

Aris Salonika is currently fifth in the Greek Super League with 27 points after 18 days of championship. Olympiacos, leader, is thirteen points ahead. Next Sunday, Aris will play a derby against its long-time rival, PAOK Salonika.
