Around 10 a.m., this Friday, January 17, a passerby alerted the emergency services: smoke was coming from a house, rue de Cambrai in Chassey-Beaupré, near Gondrecourt-le-Château, in Meuse.

When firefighters arrived, smoke had filled the entire house. Emergency services managed to enter the home from the rear by breaking a door. They quickly extinguished the main fireplace located in the living room at the back of the house. The spread to the upper floor and the bedrooms was brought under control and the fire was extinguished late in the morning.
-On site, 25 firefighters from the emergency centers of Bure, Ligny-en-Barrois, Commercy, Vaucouleurs, Gondrecourt-le-Château and Tronville-en-Barrois were mobilized.
A body discovered in an outbuilding
Not yet on site, the emergency services were informed that the occupant of the premises could not be found. Firefighters then discovered the body of a man in an outbuilding away from the house.
The Bar-le-Duc public prosecutor's office confirmed the opening of an investigation to determine the causes of the fire and the death.
According to the deputy prosecutor, investigators are looking towards suicide: the owner set fire to his house before killing himself.
