An investigation was opened by the Gironde gendarmerie after the discovery, on Sunday January 12, of a human skull on an isolated dune in Porge, in the locality of Cantine Nord. Reported around 4:30 p.m. by a walker, the bone, apparently from an adult, was recovered for analysis by the Bordeaux forensic institute, before being entrusted to the Criminal Research Institute of the National Gendarmerie ( IRCGN). These investigations, which can last several months, aim to determine the identity of the victim and the circumstances of this discovery. No other bones were found nearby, ruling out the hypothesis of a body buried there.
A thick mystery
Speculation is emerging regarding a possible link with a previous case: in July 2024, a human tibia in a boot was discovered on Lion Beach in Lacanau, about 15 kilometers away. This first find triggered additional research, revealing other bones. The initial investigation aimed to identify whether these remains belonged to a British woman who disappeared in November 2023 in Lacanau. However, no definitive scientific conclusions have yet been made, and no formal link could be established between these two discoveries due to the geographical distance and lack of supporting evidence.
The case remains shrouded in mystery, and the origin of this skull, as well as its possible link with other disappearances, remains to be clarified thanks to ongoing analyses.
