Negative temperatures expected this weekend in the Channel, the severe cold plan triggered

– 5°C. This was the expected temperature in the night of Thursday 16 to Friday 17 January 2025 by Météo in the Channel. This weekend, the thermometer should not rise again. Of the negative temperatures are expected, in particular at night.

Additional accommodation

In view of these weather forecasts, the prefect of Manche decided to trigger, this Thursday, level 1 of the plan extreme cold.

As part of the activation of level 1, additional reception and accommodation measures are implemented in the department.

In Cherbourg

Dix additional places are made available by the CCAS ;

– night reception Coallia is open during the day;

– day center hours are extended until 5 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (3 Saturdays per month);

– meals are offered on Sunday evenings at La Chaudrée until 8 p.m.

The City of Cherbourg announced the opening of Salle Gandhirue Delalée, to welcome people homeless.

Reinforced marauding

Maraudes are organized regularly in the department. Three associations are involved in this social monitoring system, certain hours of which are extended by the triggering of level 1:

– Humanitarian conscience, Cherbourg-en-Cotentinevery day from 8:30 p.m. (without time limit);

– Coallia, to Cherbourg-en-Cotentinfrom 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Monday to Wednesday, 1re et 3e weeks of the month; and from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Wednesday to Friday, bothe et 4e weeks of the month;

– Red Cross, Saint-LôTuesday (subject to availability) and Friday from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m./9 p.m.

The prefecture calls for everyone to be vigilant

This winter system also relies on everyone's vigilance. Any person who identifies a homeless person in difficulty or in danger on the street must, during this period, call 115, a free number accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to report the situation of this person to a listener. This will then mobilize the mobile teams.
