Following its recent postponement, Assassin's Creed Shadows is now scheduled for March 20, 2025. A small delay which gives the Ubisoft teams time to refine the final details before the game's release and which is also an opportunity to discover the brand new main visual of the game.
Yasuke and Naoe are downplayed in favor of other characters in the game
Ubisoft is currently offering Assassin's Creed Shadows testing phases in which Xboxygen is participating. We will be able to bring you our first impressions next week but in the meantime, we discover that a new visual is now being pushed by Ubisoft, with quite a few changes.
Until now, the main visual of Assassin's Creed Shadows, which is called keyart in industry jargon, has always focused on the two main characters of the game, namely Yasuke and Naoe.
The emphasis on these two characters was understandable since they are the two figures that it will be possible to embody in the game. But the new visual shared by Ubisoft changes course and now minimizes Yasuke and Naoe to leave some room for new characters who take place around them.
The exact role of certain figures still remains unknown at this stage, but we can notably spot Junjiro, the child who is visible at the bottom of the image and in whom the shinobi Naoe places all her hopes for a radiant Japan, according to the developers. The one at the bottom left is Fujiyabashi Nagato, Naoe's father.
-We also notice 11 characters at the very bottom of the image, melted into the fog, and some of whom wear masks. We don't yet know who they are, but players imagine that they are targets to be killed in the game.
Following the controversy which surrounded the character of Yasuke during the summer of 2024, and which had reached the Japanese political sphere, Ubisoft responded that it had made “significant efforts to ensure an immersive and respectful representation of feudal Japan”, but that its It was never the intention to present the Assassin's Creed games “as factual representations of history or historical figures.”
Assassin's Creed Shadows will be available to discover with controller in hand from March 20 on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
