Democratic President Joe Biden was alarmed Thursday, January 16, by the “fragility of democracy” American due to the erosion of “guardrails” institutions now in the hands of the Republicans, in a final interview before the return of his enemy Donald Trump to the White House on Monday.

A very rare occurrence, the 46th President of the United States spoke during an hour-long television interview, recorded during the day by the progressive channel MSNBC. This speech comes the day after a very somber farewell speech in which he said he feared that his country would fall into the hands of a “oligarchy” and a “handful of ultra-rich people”.

“I am really concerned about the level of fragility of democracy”the outgoing president insisted Thursday evening. Without being explicit, he expressed concern about the concentration of power in the hands of Republicans and conservatives within the executive, legislative and judicial branches, the three branches of American democratic institutions.

“There is an independent Supreme Court but which must be accountable. There is a Congress which must respond to fundamental principles and there is a presidency which really has limited powers. We are the boss, but we cannot dictate everything”described the 82-year-old politician. The Trumpists “seem to cut all these elements into small pieces”this balance of institutions, warned the democrat.
