Unlike the ecologists, the communists and the rebels, the deputies of the Socialist Party (PS) did not, for the vast majority of them, vote in favor of the motion of censure targeting the Bayrou government, this Thursday January 16, 2025 in the National Assembly.
The MP welcomes progress
Within the New Popular Front (NFP), if the formation of Manuel Bompard (LFI) described a “government of misfortune”, that of Olivier Faure, first secretary of the PS, refused to precipitate the fall of the newly elected government. The Socialists thus decided not to sign the motion of censure tabled by the Insoumis, two days after the general policy speech by Prime Minister François Bayrou.
Member of the national office of the PS, Cherbourg MP Anna Pic justified this disagreement within the NFP by evoking a series of advances obtained from the Prime Minister.
“Many of our demands were written in black and white. It was about time! », declared Anna Pic, while recalling that the “ negotiations can continue, but censorship remains an option if commitments are not respected.
The parliamentarian, however, stressed that several points of friction remainparticularly on budgetary texts. Among the sensitive subjects, she mentions the postponement of the retirement age, on which “we will have to be clear”.
-“With LFI, we will continue to work together, but differently”
But also measures linked to the ecological transition: “We cannot save money on the fight against climate change. Especially when we note that 2024 was the hottest year globally since the start of the industrial era. »
This dissension within the NFP, clearly visible this Thursday at the Palais Bourbon, marks the start of a divorce on the left? No, according to the MP for Manche, who wants to be reassuring: “I was still on the phone with a comrade from the Insoumis not long ago. We we will continue to work together, but differently. We need each other to bring a little social progress in the middle of this ocean of conservative right. »
On the other hand, the mayor of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Benoît Arrivé, also a member of the national office of the PS, did not wish to comment on this vote.
Next week, on the occasion of the Socialists' next parliamentary meeting, the slogan remains unchanged: “Improve the quality of life of the French with the small levers available to the opposition: short but useful laws. »
Note that the three other Manchois deputies, Stéphane Travert (related to Ensemble pour la République), Philippe Gosselin (La Droite Republicane) and Bertrand Sorre (EPR), logically did not vote for this motion either.
