In front of the gates of the Bertrand administrative city in Châteauroux, this Thursday, January 16, 2025, around forty tenacious silhouettes. The cold does not freeze the signs or the slogans. Responding to the call from the FSU and CGT Éduc'action de l'Indre unions, these demonstrators – teachers and support workers for students with disabilities (AESH) – denounce an increasingly stifling reality.
Support, at what cost?
Antoine Rabottin, representing FSU, draws a bitter observation. “We did a survey at the start of the year and we got completely uncanny results. 92% of AESH are part-time and below the poverty line. And now they have to manage up to 12 students, sometimes four at the same time. It's impossible. »
The PIALs (localized inclusive support centers), supposed to optimize resources, above all degrade daily life. “We say that we place an AESH in front of each student, but this is a statistical lie, institutional violence for staff and students. »
The figures speak for themselves: 350 AESH for all of Indre. Too little. “Some students receive two hours of support per week when they would need much more. And for the AESH, it's a double penalty: multiple assignments, kilometers at their expense and paltry salaries. » A reality shared by Charline, school teacher: “It’s a cruel scattering. We no longer do things based on the needs of the students, but on the hours available. »
-A cry for status
The demands are clear: category B status for AESH, a salary increase, an end to excessive pooling and recruitment to meet needs. But also, a more human approach. Laura, AESH unionized with the CGT, deplores a cold logic: “Students with disabilities are reduced to mathematical logic, hours counted. Where is the humanity in all this? »
Received for more than an hour by the Indre academic inspection, the unions were listened to. These demands will be transmitted to the rectorate.
