A very active association in favor of animals

SOLIDARITY. The association Aid to Animals in Distress 52 held its general meeting on Saturday January 11, at 10 a.m., in the double room of the Jean-Jaurès complex in Bettancourt-la-Ferrée.

Maurice Burton, president of the association, alongside members of the office, led this meeting in the presence of members, elected officials Dominique Laurent mayor of Bettancourt-la-Ferrée, Caroline Duhalde first deputy, deputies Rachel Blanc and Mokhtar Kahlal of the town of Saint-Dizier. Alexandra Mierzwa, representative of the Andrée-Guérin refuge, was also present.

120 members

In the preamble, Maurice Burton welcomed the financial support of partners such as communities (Saint-Dizier, Bettancourt-la-Ferrée, Ancerville, etc.), the OPH, donors of food, equipment and money to cover the costs veterinarians. The association has 120 members and more than twenty volunteers. “The association is the only one in Haute- supported by the 30 Millions d’amis foundation,” underlined Maurice Burton. The president recalled the activities and missions of the association which intervenes to protect stray cats, dogs and horses.

Erick Rocher, treasurer, detailed the significant cost of veterinary fees, sterilization and food. Help for animals in distress 52 covers all sterilization, vaccination and identification costs. Many treatments have been carried out for neutered and chipped cats. She also supports animals whose families are in financial difficulty. “Veterinary costs cost us dearly, and animal protection is increasingly tough,” underlined Maurice Burton.

12 communes

The association operates in twelve municipalities in the district of Saint-Dizier, as far as the Marne and the Meuse. Help for Animals in Distress has once again denounced the multiple mistreatments against animals recorded every day and the problem of unsterilized stray cats which breed in abandoned places. The sterilization of stray cats is essential in order to combat their proliferation.
