Leila Benali: Morocco, a destination for investments in critical minerals

Morocco is now establishing itself as an essential destination for investments in the critical minerals sector, says the Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali.

During a round table organized as part of the 4th Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, she stressed that Morocco is one of the five countries with a key role in the reconfiguration of global value chains.

The Kingdom is also the only African country to be interconnected with Europe and the Atlantic basin in terms of logistics, culture and energy. According to the minister, the “OTC corridor” initiative, a strategic framework based on the principles of origin, transit and certification, aims to make sustainability a common right.

The minister added that securing supply requires certain conditions, such as recycling and optimizing interconnections between markets, noting that this is likely to ultimately make it possible to supply minerals at a competitive cost.

Ms. Benali noted that countries like Morocco constitute a strategic platform for mobilizing large geopolitical blocs, not only to invest in the industrial and production sector, but also to promote research and development and the use of technology. AI and efficiently manage electricity networks.
