SENEGAL WITH NIGERIA, CONGO AND SUDAN

The draw for the 8th edition of the African Nations Championships carried out yesterday, Wednesday January 15, 2025 at the Kenyatta International Convention Center in Nairobi, Kenya, placed Senegal in Pool D. The Title Holder, will be in the company from Nigeria, Congo and Sudan. Initially scheduled for February 2025, this competition reserved for local players, initially scheduled for February 1 to 28, 2025, was postponed this Tuesday to next August by the Confederation of African (CAF)

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) carried out yesterday, Wednesday January 15, in Nairobi, Kenya, the draw for the 8th edition of the CHAN 2025 African Nations Championships which will be jointly organized by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The 19 teams entered, including two places to be distributed, were divided into 4 groups: three groups of five teams and one group of four.

For its fourth participation in the competition, reserved for local players, Senegal, defending champion, is placed in pool D. It will be in the company of Nigeria, which is making its return after four editions, but also Congo and Sudan. Group B will bring together Tanzania, one of the host countries, Madagascar, semi-finalist of the previous edition, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and the Central African Republic. Group A, described as “death”, is shared by two former winners of the event. These are DR Congo which won the trophy in 2009 and 2016 and Morocco crowned in 2018 and 2020. This group of five teams is also made up of Kenya, one of the host countries, Angola and Zambia. A 2nd qualifying tournament is finally planned by CAF to determine group C. In the meantime, only the Ugandan host, Niger, and Guinea appear in this group. The other two teams will validate their ticket during the 2nd qualifying tournament which will pit 7 selections against each other on a date to be determined. These are Algeria, Comoros, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Malawi, and South Africa. C

his edition of the CHAN, initially planned for 2024 then postponed to February 2025, has been postponed and will be held in August 2025. This decision allows the confederal body to have more guarantees concerning the infrastructures and installations at the levels of the requirements necessary to welcome the tournament.
