According to MétéoMédia, these would be the “coldest temperatures of winter almost everywhere in Quebec” – except on the North Shore and in Gaspésie, and perhaps in Estrie.

This cold snap, caused by an arctic air mass descending from north to south, will reach southern Quebec this weekend.

After a certain mild spell on Saturday around 0°C, temperatures will drop on Sunday, with around -15°C during the night from Sunday to Monday. The mercury will continue to plummet to reach its minimum during the night from Monday to Tuesday.

In Montreal, minimum temperatures should be around -24°C, according to data from Environment Canada. In Quebec, the mercury could drop to -29°C in places, underlines Kathleen Maynard-Leclerc, meteorologist at Environment Canada. The temperature felt in the two cities could reach -35°C.

This polar cold wave will affect all of southern Quebec. In Abitibi in particular, temperatures could drop to around -32°C, with a feeling of -40°C.

The mercury will begin to rise slowly on Wednesday. “It should improve on Thursday or Friday,” said the meteorologist.
