France is the first European country to welcome Samsung's Galaxy device trade-in program. But is this one really worth it?
Samsung announces the launch in France of a new Galaxy device trade-in program. This is permanent and allows consumers to trade in an old device for any product purchase on the official Samsung website. Until now, the manufacturer offered this type of service for only a few devices, and for a limited time, as part of introductory offers for example.
This program is already offered in South Korea and arrives in Europe for the first time. France alone acts as a test country for the European market. Samsung specifies that if the experience is conclusive, Trade-In will then be extended to other countries this year. It is the specialized company Likewize, known for selling Apple products, which will be responsible for managing and operating the program, in partnership with the South Korean brand.
Is the Samsung Galaxy trade-in program worth it?
“We are delighted to launch this permanent Galaxy trade-in program in France. We are convinced of its interest for owners of a Galaxy device, who will thus be able to benefit at any time from a trade-in offer and perfectly secure transactions”reacted François Hernandez, Vice-President and director of the Mobile eXperience division of Samsung Electronics France.
But rather than taking his word for it, we took a look at Samsung's trade-in tool to get an idea of its real usefulness. For example, if you wish to trade in your Galaxy S23 Ultra to acquire a Galaxy S24 Ultra, the platform offers up to 450 euros return. Suffice to say that the trade-in value is not the most generous, especially since this is the maximum amount that can be obtained, if the smartphone does not suffer from any problem or defect. In most cases, it will be more profitable to sell your used smartphone than to go through this program.
Samsung also specifies that it will take back smartphones with broken screens, obviously at a lower price. This can be a good solution if you don't want to have it repaired yourself and resell it by other means, but don't expect to make very good money from a damaged product.
