Oscar Piastri expects to have his chances of victory or even a world title in 2025. The McLaren F1 driver, who suffered the law of his teammate in 2024, wants to return to form and establish himself at the front of the grid from the start of the year.
“I’m really looking forward to this year. The goal is to win from day one.” Piastri told ABC Sport. “It will be a fight, that's for sure. The best teams are not here for nothing and they will all want to come back on us in 2025.”
The Australian is convinced that he still has a lot of progress to make and potential to exploit: “I've only done two seasons in F1, so it's natural that I still have a lot of room to grow and progress.”
“This is what excites me the most, because I know there is still a lot to come. You can't buy experience, but I'm gradually gaining it in this category and I'm very excited for the 'future.”
The fact of having to be put at the service of his teammate Lando Norris does not worry him, especially since McLaren plans to give them equal opportunity at the start of the season: “It's not something that really concerns me. I'm more focused on racing and winning.”
“I helped Lando and the team when asked towards the end of last year. I know that if the roles are reversed, I will be helped as well. This year we will be free to race the one against the other.”
The first positive point in this 2025 season for Piastri is the fact that the calendar opens in Australia, his home race since he was born in Melbourne: “It’s great that the season opener is in my garden.”
“I'm biased, but the atmosphere in Melbourne is very special and the fans always come out in force. The welcome I've received there over the last two seasons has given me goosebumps and I know 2025 will be no different not in line. I'm looking forward to it.”
