SENEGAL IN POOL D WITH NIGERIA, CONGO AND SUDAN

The draw for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) was held this Wednesday, January 15 at the Kenyatta International Convention Center in Nairobi, Kenya. Senegal, defending champion, was placed in Pool D, where it will face Nigeria, Congo and Sudan.

Unlike the other groups which have five teams, Group D is made up of only four teams. This edition will mark Senegal’s fourth participation in this competition reserved for players playing in local African championships.

The Confederation of African (CAF) has announced a postponement of the competition, initially scheduled for February 1 to 28, 2024. It will now be held in August 2025 and will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Composition of the CHAN 2024 groups:

– Group A: Kenya, Morocco, Angola, DR Congo, Zambia

– Group B: Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritania, Burkina Faso, Central Africa

– Group C: Uganda, Niger, Guinea, 1st and 2nd qualified from the second qualifying tournament

– Group D: Senegal, Congo, Sudan, Nigeria

Senegal, reigning champion, will begin this edition with the ambition of defending its trophy against formidable opponents, notably Nigeria, accustomed to major African competitions.
